frequently asked questions
What kind of photo do I need?
I will need high-quality photos to create your artwork. The higher the resolution, the more detailed and elaborate the portrait will be. If possible, photograph your little pet at eye level, this will avoid distortions.
If you did not photograph the subject, please respect the photographer's copyright when using the images. If you obtain the image from the internet, please check it.
How long does it take to complete?
Pastel drawings:
The size and complexity of the portrait significantly impact on the time it takes to create a portrait. Smaller ones usually take 30-40 hours, while larger ones can take up to 100 hours.
In addition, I usually need a time frame of 1-1.5 months to complete the work. This allows me to plan thoroughly, agree the designs with you and finally work out all the details, as I am committed to creating a beautiful and unique piece of art that you will love for years to come.
Acrylic paintings:
Acrylic paintings involve multiple layers to achieve a realistic effect. Therefore, unlike pastels, an acrylic painting takes more time to complete. For minis it takes 2-3 weeks, for mediums about 6 weeks, and for larger ones 2-3 months.
Including consultations, the lead time can be up to 2 months for the smaller ones and up to 5 months for the larger ones.
What kind of background does the artwork have?
For my artwork, I typically use single-colour or a two-colour gradient background of two colours, which complements the main subject of the artwork. However, Before starting each project, I will discuss the colour choice with you to ensure it aligns with your vision and taste.
In addition, I offer the option of a more detailed and elaborate background. However, this will incur an additional cost, which I can provide after reviewing the photograph.
What is the passepartout?
The passepartout is a sturdy, acid-free cardboard paper used to protect pastel drawings. It prevents the artwork from coming into direct contact with the glass of the frame and also makes it look beautiful.
I will provide the exact size once the details are clarified, which will allow you to buy the right size frame.
What do you need to know about framing?
Artworks without a frame:
I will send you the pastel drawings unframed, but carefully wrapped. Unframed pastel portraits should always be held by the edges and avoid touching the pastel. Since the use of a fixative can degrade the refractive properties of the pastel, I do not use them.
It is recommended that you have your artwork framed by a professional framer who is experienced in framing pastel pieces.
Framed:
If you would like a frame, we can discuss the available options and which ones you like, as well as the surcharge and the collection options, before ordering. For pastels, due to the fragility of the glass, only personal pickup is available.
What kind of materials do I use?
I always strive to deliver high quality in all my creations. I use only professional-grade materials and tools to ensure that the finished product is durable and of the highest quality.
The most commonly used materials and tools are:
- Pastel paper: Pastelmat Clairefontaine
- Pastel pencils: Stabilo and Faber Castell
- Soft pastels: Schmincke
- Acrylics: Golden Acrylics
- Oil paint: Blue Ridge
- Brushes: Rosemary & Co and Seneca
What is the payment and order process?
I usually have a waiting list of a few months. A 20% deposit is required to secure a spot on the waiting list. If you cancel your order after paying the deposit, this amount is non-refundable as you are reserving a place on my calendar that can be used by someone else.
Once the reservation is paid, we will discuss any remaining details and I will present a visual design of your portrait. When you indicate that you are happy with the design and you are next on the waiting list, I will create the artwork in continuous contact.
Before the portrait is delivered and handed over, the remaining balance must be settled. Payment in instalments is also possible. In this case, the last instalment will be paid before the delivery of the work.
